How Can nausea Along With Breathlessness Be Treated?

I have been to the doctor who sent me to ED. My EKGs were normal and chest xray did not show pneumonia. Symptoms are exhaustion, shortness of breath with activity, and nausea. Symptoms improve if I take Benadryl and I have previously been diagnosed with seasonal allergies. How long can I take Benadryl without being worried?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms you are experiencing can also happen with asthma or other lung conditions other then pneumonia so the lack of pneumonia does not mean you don't have other conditions. It is important for you to have a chest xray and a spirometry to evaluate the lung structures and functions. If these are normal then allergy can be considered as the cause.
Benadryl can be used for a long time but it may make you drowsy so it might be better to take a similar drug that has a longer effect but causes less drowsiness. This would be Loratadine or Cetirizine.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

General & Family Physician Dr. Dr.Albana Sejdini's  Response
Hello,

Should determine first if you are going through a seasonal allergy. Go for allergy tests, and respiratory function test.

Discuss further with an allergy specialist. Benadryl can be taken safely for a couple of weeks. But should consult with an allergy specialist for best treatment strategy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
